Closure of the Guild

Many of you will already know that the Newmachar branch of the Guild has now closed.  It was with regret and sadness that the leadership team took the decision to stop meeting as a Guild, after seeking the views of each member at the end of last session.  Factors contributing to this decision were falling membership, difficulty in securing office bearers and project speakers for such a small number of members and the inevitable decrease in membership fees/income from fundraising.

Over the years the Guild has played a very important and successful part in the life of the church.  Many women and latterly some men have enjoyed hearing the speakers who have come to inform us of their project, activity, employment, hobby etc.  The members have also enjoyed visiting local places of interest and joining with other Guilds for special events and meetings.

The current accounts book goes back to 1975 and on looking over the last 10 years alone the Guild has raised £4570 for local charities and £2088 for Guild and global projects.  These figures are something to celebrate in that the members have done their best to show love and commitment to making a difference to groups at home and abroad.

The Guild has always been a source of great friendship, fellowship and fun and it is such a shame that we have had to close this branch of such a long running institution.
